The CDC Dog Import Ban & Service Dogs

I spent some time on the phone with the CDC and here is what I learned about the CDC Dog Import Ban.

At this time, the ban is expected to last into mid-2022, and is likely to be renewed after that point. Service Dog Handlers are addressed in this section. Service Dog Handlers are not limited to sailing from/returning to specific ports. However, you MUST complete the CDC Dog Import Application. Do it as early as possible, as processing times are 2-3 months at this time. Be as complete as possible, so you don't have to start over. Note: If you do not complete this process, you should not sail/visit a country on the ban list. I spoke with a young lady who didn't know about this before she went to a country on the ban list. She was quite literally stuck there with her service dog, as she was not allowed to re-enter the United States. For our Service Dogs on Deck cruise, all handlers must have an import permit in order to sail, as we are visiting Belize, which is on the ban list. If you want to avoid the permit process, I can help you select a trip route that avoids ban countries.
